Cool Abbreviations in Slovenian

Nowadays, in the age of the internet, the use of internet slang is very common. Cool abbreviations are also very popular and used by younger generations in particular, but are also familiar to slightly older generations. These abbreviations are most commonly used in spoken language among young people, in text messages, online forums, social media, chats, etc.

Abbreviations are usually made up of initial letters and are written in capital letters. Many abbreviations in Slovenian come from English and we write or pronounce them as such, for example OMG, BTW, ASAP. Others are of Slovenian origin, for example LP, RTM, FSM.

We see abbreviations not only in written form, but also in spoken language. So if you learn Slovenian and you hear or see one of the abbreviations below, you now know exactly what it means. 😀

LP – lep pozdrav (best regards)

LPP – lep pozdrav in poljub (best regards and kisses)

RD – rojstni dan (birthday)

JBG – jebiga (fuck it)

RTM – rad/-a te ‘mam (imam) (I love you)

BP – brez problema (no problem)

NP – ni problema (no problem)

FSM – fajn se ‘mej (lepo se imej) (have a nice time)

JU3 – jutri (tomorrow)

S5 – spet (again)

MI2 – midva/midve (we two)

MMG – mimogrede (by the way)

English Abbreviations:

ASAP – čimprej (as soon as possible)

OMG – o moj bog (oh my god)

WTF – kaj za vraga (what the fuck)

BTW – mimogrede (by the way)

TNX (THX) – hvala (thanks)

OK – v redu, prav (OK, fine)

PLZ – prosim (please)

LOL – smejem se na glas (laughing out loud)
